How do you glance towards the word disability? Describe.

Looking at the word disability, I do not think of its weakness and limitation; I think about strength, adaptability, and covert power. The term is usually accompanied by a taint of misinterpretation, yet behind all this the truth of the fact that each person has their way in life. Disability is not non-existent ability-- it is the existence of different ways of getting around the world. It makes me remember that the society tends to categorize people based on what they can not do as opposed to praising them on what they are capable of doing. In my case, the word evokes sympathy, respect and a test of stereotypical thought. It reminds one that human dignity is never evaluated by physical or mental states but by bravery, willpower and the difference that one makes regardless of the challenges.

Which disability is more challenging? Physical or mental!

The question of which is more difficult, physical or mental disability is convoluted as each involves individual challenges. Physical disabilities are in most cases apparent and may include mobility and chronic pain, which can not be independent or to perform normal daily tasks. Society however, is at times more accommodating, such as wheelchairs, ramps or assistive equipment. Mental disabilities are, however, invisible and misconceived. Depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, among others, are conditions that influence the way an individual thinks, feels, and treats the world.

Mental disorders can be more difficult to be empathized with or even given the necessary support due to the stigma and ignorance surrounding mental health. It turns out that both kinds of disability come with their own difficulties, yet mental ones might be more difficult to notice and respond to and physical ones are much more accepted. One must not underrate either of them.

How can we encourage those who are going through a disability? Explain.

Passing someone through a disability takes empathy, time and being non-pretentious. First of all, we must treat them with dignity and respect and not pity. Their experiences will not be put down and hearing them will make them feel significant and understood. Emotional support i.e. reminding them that they possess some strengths, accomplishments and potential would increase self confidence.

It is also necessary that they should be provided with practical assistance - when they require it but not to make them feel helpless or incompetent. Isolation may also be reduced through promoting participation in social, educational or professional activities to develop a sense of belonging.

Above all, hope can be evoked by establishing an inclusive atmospher where accessibility and equal chances are highly valued. The easiest kind of goodwill, constant support and belief in their capabilities can be a great boost in encouraging them to lead positive lives regardless of the circumstances.

Thanks for reading my post I'm inviting @ninapenda, @m-fdo and @kafio to participate in this contest.
