Time for multi-language support

Why does Steem not have multi-language support???

I never ceases to amaze me the lack of multi-language support on websites. Be it a personal blog, a (large) corporate sites, or a new exciting development like Steem, multi-language support always seems to be an afterthought if supported at all.

This means that you're missing out on a large portion of the population would love to join and can benefit from this platform, but are either unable to use it in English, or just don't know about Steem since Google will only show results in their own language.

Not to stir up another flame-war about whether they're making the right decision, this is one of the main reasons Golos started, and I can absolutely understand why.

Considering the brains we have working on this great solution, this would be an opportunity to show how it should be done.

A few thought of my own;

  • DO NOT show Steemit (I know, it's different from Steem, but for most people it's their first impression) in a language based on geo-location (IP Address). Living in Spain now, it really annoys me that for instance Google will thinks it's smarter than me and start showing me only results in Spain.
    Also a lot of company sites here come up in Spanish because they only look at my ip address, while my browser settings are set to English.
  • Provide an easy-to-find and quick button to change languages. Putting these buttons at the bottom of the page, especially with all the constantly changing content, makes no sense.
  • A tricky one; I would love to see content in languages I speak, not just one. For me that would be Dutch, German, English, Spanish and French. I have no use for Chinese, Russian or Indian, no matter how interesting the content is.
    I can imagine a post having the same content but in several languages. Would that require duplicate entries in the blockchain, which are somehow connected or would it mean the one block would grow (a lot) bigger?

I hope we'll see some future developments in this area, it would really help to make Steem even better.

And I sincerely hope you're not hinking I'm ranting, but if you do; here's a picture of a cat:

Wow .. I totally agree with you on the google always being overconfident with its result and a on the go language translator inbuilt onto stemit will do magic for people of every language preference everybody will be able to read and appreciate every content.. But the point is in hoping if all of this happens soon

While an inbuilt translator would be great, it would already better if we can have a language selection option so we don't get a huge list with posts in languages we don't understand.
