ImaginaryCreatures Sketch Off Contest entry, my spirit animal & bodypainting

kitsune-making.jpg

@zeroooc is throwing this awesome sketch-off contest Which combines two of my favourite topics together- Imaginary creatures & year of the dog. I mean- imaginary dog! :D <3
Now I'm usually not much of a "drawing on paper person", but the man himself asked me and I could not refuse ;D

Before we go to my finished sketch, here's a little prologue :D
I am a dog, that is pretty obvious to everyone who knows me, and I guess also to those who follow me here by now. The native american beleive is that if you have a dog as a spirit animal, you should connect to your dog's origin. In my case, it's the fennec fox, the tiny little desert creature with the big ears (just like me! :D ).
And I love painting fennec foxes, but I mainly paint them on the human body, like this one for instance:

bodypainting: Shlomit Schatzmayr, photo: Robert Lunak, 2010

I got to paint my first imaginary fennec back in 2012, when I was invited to Maribor, together with some of Europe's finest bodypainters, to participate in the Slovenian body painting festival. The theme of the day was fantasy and I was thinking what kind of a character would I be in a fantasy story. One of the things I gave my character was riding on a giant fennec through the desert :D

So yeah, it was pretty obvious to me that my imaginary dog would be fennec inspired :D I combined also elements from my own 2 doggies and decided that for the year of the dog, I will take it to a more asian direction and make him more of a "Kitsune".
So here it is, My kitsune sketch for @zeroooc ^_^

All the best of luck to all of the contestants! I can't wait to see everybody's amazing works :)

Glorious! Just glorious! I'm so happy that people are actually participating and that you had some fun while doing it. I appreciate that you took a creative route and didn't just draw a normal "dog" (as normal as they can be anyways), but you branched out both in terms of species as well as culture. The Fennec is amazing creature from a region often misunderstood here "at home" and is a good choice for a third culture kid like you (or I).

It's really cool how the fox is a repetitive image and that you've brought it back for this. The fact that you were able to paint it on bodies speaks for the trust people must have in you and I really like how colourful the body paintings actually are...the boobies are a nice bonus though (let's be honest here).

Additionally you provided process pieces and used the allowed mediums and materials...check check check.

A strong entry overall...I appreciate it a lot! Good Luck!

:D Thank you so much for this comment! I'm happy you enjoyed my entry ^_^ I especially enjoyed participating! (I actually needed this little pause from life today and it was a nice chance to do that, so thank you <3 ).
Oh yes, the Fennec is an amazing creature indeed! And that reagion.. yeah.. well it's very unfortunate :/ The nature and animals there are so beautiful, if only humans could get along for once :P Oh wait, I was sure that you were Austrian! :D So where are you from originally, if I may ask?
The human body is usually my prefered canvas to paint on :D I used to travel quite a lot doing that, but now I mainly bodypaint for my own photography work. The main problem in festivals though, is that you are extremely limited in time. If I remember correctly, in Maribor we had only like 5 hours or so.
(and yeah, I thought you might enjoy the boobies ;D )
Thanks again & good night :)

It's good to practice other disciplines on occasion too I suppose! Some skills transfer over to different mediums. An interesting exercise as I've found to practice your creativity! I like canvas, page and stone the most but I have been known to paint faces on past Halloween nights. It's only human ^^

Rock on.

Yes indeed, and it's one of the great things happenning through these steemit competitions ^_^

Fennecs(or how i call them, Langohrkadse) are so fkin cute :3 fennecs.png

Oh, they sure are ^_^ <3

Wow! That body art is amazing! I have some face painting experience and it is not the same as if you paint on paper at all. I like your fennec !

Thank you very much!
Yeah, painting on the human body is completely different than on paper or canvas and has it's own techniques ;)
Personally, I love doing that so much more :D
