Pahlaj Nihalani Slams IIFA Awards 2017 And We Can’t Help But Agree With Him
Most of the times, whatever comes out of that hole on CBFC Chief Pahlaj Nihalani’s face is nonsensical, but there are days when he ends up saying stuff, which makes a lot of sense. The recent example are the statements that he has made on the IIFA Awards 2017 that were held in New York yesterday, and who’s who of Bollywood including Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Saif Ali Khan and others were in attendance. “Look at the hypocrisy. They haven’t even nominated Aamir Khan for Dangal and Akshay Kumar for Airlift and Rustom just because they wouldn’t attend their weekend holiday plans masquerading as an awards function,” he was quoted as saying by a leading daily. We know that Aamir and awards don’t go together, and same is for Akshay, unless it’s a National Award that we are talking about. But don’t we know how the award functions function these days? (Saw what I did there?).
Nihalani didn’t stop there as the IIFA slamming continued when in the same interaction he revealed that he has heard stories about the organisers giving extra money for shopping the stars in addition to the tickets for their families and extended family and friends. And he wanted to know, “who is paying for this extravagance?” Same, Pahlaj, same. And he also made it clear that Bollywood is NOT Indian cinema. “Initially we had cinema from various states getting token representation at the awards. Now we only have Bollywood. So why do they call themselves the International Indian films awards? It’s such a sham! Bollywood is not Indian cinema,” he was quoted further. Finally someone said it.
