Investigation - Children in the care of Nottinghamshire Councils - Public hearing - Day 11

in #iicsa6 years ago (edited)

Welcome back and now we come to the final week of hearings, about the historical abuse of children who were in the care of Nottinghamshire county council and Nottinghamshire city council. This has been a revealing part of the IICSA and has mainly displayed how far some folks are willing to stretch out their lies. As well as hearing many witnesses lie whilst under oath I have also been amazed at the collective and more importantly selective amnesia that has been displayed a very particular section of the inquiry. It will be obvious to anyone that has been following these hearing that a sure-fire way to avoid any further questions is to simply say that they can't remember what happened. It doesn't take a mastermind to work out that this is a calculated and premeditated approach to these hearings. Only those who have been representing the authorities have been struck with such a random affliction, while those who have been on the receiving end of any maltreatment have never missed a beat. Never have any of the victims stuttered or failed to recollect vital parts of their experiences and not once have they had to apologize for causing harm or neglecting their responsibilities.

As well as the constant amnesia, giving away the real truths, it is also worth reading the body language of those giving evidence. On many occasions, you will see that those being put under pressure to reveal the truth when they would rather not begin to fidget in their seats or the shuffle the papers in front of them. The shuffling and fidgeting is an obvious sign that they would like the inquiry to move along and that they are uncomfortable about what they are having to disclose. I would like to ask anyone viewing today's hearing to be aware of these subconscious expressions as I am sure there will be many examples.

On Friday it was more of the same and the witnesses who took the stand continued to give a very guarded account of their actions. One of my personal highlights was that we had, for the first time, a member of the Police constabulary giving evidence. Rhona Hicks was a Detective constable in the CAIU (Child Abuse Investigation Unit) and this lady was very well prepared. I have no doubt that she lied as much as the others but the composure that Rhona showed whilst doing so was quite scary to behold. This lady never stuttered, she didn't fidget and very rarely did she forget to recall any details... So why do I believe she lied, you might ask. Well, my suspicion is based on the fact that I have been following this part of the IICSA intently and due to that I have managed to paint myself a bigger picture of what has been going on inside the care homes and foster homes in question. Anyone who had only tuned in to Friday's hearing, without listening to what had been said before, would have left with the notion that Rhona Hicks did the best she could and never let any of the victims down. Her performance was seemless and her body language was disciplined. Only one problem... Her evidence completely contradicted the statements of the victims and she also stated that the Police and the Social services had a "very good relationship". For myself, these were red-flags and ones that gave away the true narrative.
I've always stated that the Police have been a major part of the problem here and along with the Social Services and other members of Nottinghamshire City council, they have both conspired to cover up what has been going on. Hundreds, if not thousands, of victims have been systematically abused for decades and this would not and could never have happened without their devious interventions.

Day-11 will continue-on in the same vain, as we here more from the Police force who were in-charge of investigating the avalanche of child abuse in Nottinghamshire. Operation Daybreak was one of a few failed attempts to un-cover the abuse that was happening or had already happened to children in care. This "operation" has become imfamous for its failures, so today should be very interesting to hear just how this part of the Police's investigation was carried out.

Here is Today's live feed and itinery for the day ahead.
