The living "stone"

The miracle of nature is living stones that grow and multiply. This unique phenomenon occurs on the territory of central Romania, and local residents have called it "thrusters".

They grow by a few grams. When they grow up, they can reach more than a ton, with young creatures growing at a faster pace, and when they grow older, their growth begins to slow down.

Terns consist mostly of sandstone, with their internal structure unique. If such a living stone split in half, there are several rings around the solid core on the cut, similar to the trees.

According to geologists, however strange the nature of the crumbs, they are the result of a long process of cementing the sand for millions of years in the earth's womb. Scientists believe that these stones are emerging under strong seismic activity. They also explain the unusual growth with the fact that it is due to the mineral salts that are beneath their envelope. When wetted, these compounds lead to expansion, press the sand, and so the starters start to grow.

But scientists can not explain their unique reproduction with scientific facts. When the living stones get wet, a small bulge is formed on their surface, which in time starts to grow. When the newborn stone becomes big enough, it breaks out of the mother's body.

Local people are accustomed to the unusual properties of living stones. They have used them for centuries as building material. Today, they can be seen on the graveyard parks, placed as tombstones, which are always unique in shape.

The Thracians have another wonderful property. Sometimes they can move from one place to another.
