Gautama Buddha was against idol worship, Hindu rituals, caste system and religious sacrifices. He gave a number of ideals, ethical principles and code of conduct for the people in his time to follow just like the Ten Commandments.
However, Buddhism was corrupted in the course of time. A Buddhist author says "Tibet today is a Buddhist country, yet Gautama could he return to earth, might go from end to end of Tibet seeking his own teaching in vain.”

Eventually, the worship of idols and other superstitious beliefs were introduced. When Ananda, the most devoted attendant and a leading monk sought permission to make an idol of Buddha, he opposed the idea.
The practice of idol worship in present day Buddhism is defying the teachings of the Buddha. The Buddha left Hinduism because he detest its countless idols and superstitions.

If the Buddha were alive today, there would be two possibilities that will happen. First, he would reform Buddhism. Second, he would probably leave Buddhism and join a Christian community!

I have no doubt that he would be reading and agreeing the Bible. He would continue to tell people to seek with all their heart a way of scape, to avoid the vicious cycle of sufferings (samsara) at any cost.
The Buddha was willing to leave all- his princely status, his wealth and his religion, to seek for the noble truth.
How many Christians and Buddhists today are willing to leave all to find salvation?
