Web 2 Is Not Web 3

Web 2 is Not Web 3. Web 2 has identity management systems and protocols much like SAML, OAuth, OIDC and Federated Identities. Web 3 has Web 2 identity management systems and transactional identity management via the implementation of creating a model of the real world via a progression and evolution of smart contracts. A smart contract essentially contains the private / public key pairs of every entity in the transactional decision.

To an identity professional that has many years of experience in identity management systems the most difficult challenge for that professional to understand Web 3 identity management is to overcome the subconscious pull of his mind to apply Web 2 fundamentals in a Web 3 world.

e.g. When an employee presents an identification card to enter a corporate campus in a Web 2 world that employee is given a smart card and a VPN and whenever he logs into the vpn the employee is given permissions to everything in the corporate campus.

When an employee presents an identification card to enter a corporate campus in a Web 3 that employee is given a token to enter and use in combination with his identification card to obtain access to buildings (containers) as the employee enters the building employee he is given a building token that gives him access to rooms (containers) and as he enters rooms he is given tokens to access filing cabinets (containers). Each interaction is a smart contract interaction.

When the employee leaves the campus in a web 3 world he must exit the campus and when he does all smart contracts to the give access to buildings, rooms and filing cabinets could/should be cancelled.

These types of interactions can only be caught using a stateful web the type of web that can now be built because of Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT).

To a new identity professional the journey is much easier. Build a new web 3 and for now keep your mind from entering a web 2 world.
