Un identicon è una rappresentazione visiva di un valore hash.
Di solito vengono usati per creare degli avatar personalizzati.
L'ideatore è stato Don Park nel 2007.
Originariamente mi è venuta questa idea per usarla come facile mezzo per distinguere visivamente unità multiple di informazione, qualunque cosa che potesse essere ridotta in bit. Non solo IP ma anche persone, posti e cose. Secondo me troppa parte del web che leggiamo è costituita da informazioni testuali e numeriche che non è facile distinguere al primo sguardo quando sono ammucchiate insieme. Così penso che aggiungere identificatori visuali renderà l'esperienza utente più soddisfacente.

I sviluppatori di Nimiq,una cripto basata sul Web (Nimiq) non contenti di un Identicon simile a quello utlizzato da Ehereum, hanno preferito crearne uno più adatto all'utente medio, più facile da distinguere e memorizzare.
