Sharering - The New Era Of Sharing

We have come to an age where sharing is a thing. We share our homes with our loved ones, we share our money with the needy, we share our knowledge and opinions with our friends, we share our effort in building a community for a good cause. We share news, music, our holiday pictures in social medias. We share almost everything! Like what they said, sharing is caring!

But how about sharing economy? I’m sure most of you have heard about Airbnb, Uber, Grabcar, Lyft, O Bike? In Wikipedia, “Sharing economy is an umbrella term with a range of meanings, often used to describe economic activity involving online transactions. Originally growing out of the open-source community to refer to peer-to-peer based sharing of access to goods and services, the term is now sometimes used in a broader sense to describe any sales transactions that are done via online market places, even ones that are business to business (B2B), rather than peer-to-peer."

Maybe that statement is a little too complex for us to comprehend but what we understand is that sharing economy is a mean to acquire or rent goods or services from a provider. In the sharing economy, we pay to borrow or rent an asset or use a service. We pay for someone to give us a ride from one place to another, we pay to use a holiday apartment for a week or two. The asset can be anything and the owner of the asset can be a stranger or someone we know. The peer to peer sharing economy has extremely grown bigger over the last 5 years and it is now valued at $26 billion. We are all part of this economy. We use them daily. If not, at least on a weekly basis. Being a user, I have more than 3 different sharing apps on my phone. I bet some of you have more!

What if all these app can be combined into one? What if you get into your destination and all you need to do is to access one app to get your holiday apartment, your holiday bike, your hairdryer that is too bulky for you to bring, floaties for the kids to use at the beach?
