TokenPay ICO
Hi guys.
I'm a bit late to post this as their ICO has on sale since December 7th but this is a project that I'm really excited about. With all of us in the cryptocurrency world seeing the heights of which Bitcoin has grown to, it really does feel like a decentralised currency is the future. However we've also seen its shortfalls. With its popularity growing exponentially along with its price, we've seen our transactions being processed much slower than before and at a higher transaction fee cost (I'm sure everyone can relate to their transactions not seeing any confirmations for 1+ hours, and some even 1+ days). This proof-of-work system is also unsustainable too, with predictions that the current power usage to run the Bitcoin blockchain exceeds that of more than 150 individual countries' energy use! Also, its public blockchain is not ideal in that, with a lot of use cases, there's no privacy and all transactions are made public for scrutiny.
In comes TokenPay (TPAY). Its original goal was to create a system that would allow users of cryptocurrency to use their digital money in the real world. With the director calling it "Bitcoin on steroids", the TokenPay team tout their project to be an off-shoot of Bitcoin that uses proof-of-stake (instead of proof-of-work) and introduces features that improves upon the privacy and security. It's not groundbreaking as we already have seen a few projects that focus on achieving a digital-to-physical aspect of cryptocurrency (like TenX) as well as those that focus on privacy (Monero, ZCoin). However it is interesting to see TokenPay try and achieve both in their project, as well as advancing the original Bitcoin code.
Their white paper is very comprehensive and for a regular Joe like me, fairly easy to understand. If you're any bit interested in this, I'd highly recommended giving it at least a quick read! TokenPay white paper (PDF).
