TL;DR

The XYO Network (XY Oracle Network) is a protocol for linking the location of an object or person in real life to the blockchain. XYO wants to be the geolocation provider for all blockchain services and at this time they have no decentralized competitors.

XYO uses oracles which verify real-world occurrences and submits this information to a blockchain to be used by smart contracts. In the case of XYO the oracles begin with a combination of location-aware devices like cell phones, GPS, blue tooth headphones, wi-fi doorbells, and even autonomous vehicles. These devices then feed the data to smart contracts.

Luckily, XYO has been in the location verification business since 2012 and currently has over 1,000,000 GPS and Bluetooth beacons distributed worldwide. The team is stacked with members of the already running business and the Co-Founder was the Co-Founder of Uber. And by the way, they plan on launching two satellites in 2019.

Use cases for XYO are unlimited but supply chain protocols like OriginTrail or Devery would find benefit in the location-based trustless zero-knowledge data that it provides. XYO can also prevent fraud in ecommerce by providing proof of receipt for an ordered package (or proof of non-receipt). This could prevent chargebacks or requests for refunds. Immutable data is always much better than a someone with a handheld scanner.
