WHAT IS ONLIVE?

OnLive is a video streaming protocol built upon a blockchain infrastructure. The main component of OnLive is a marketplace for broadcasters and service providers to create and share their expertise, advice, and entertainment in exchange for ONL tokens.

MULTI-MARKETPLACE

The OnLive ecosystem is comprised of three decentralized marketplaces all intended to address the needs of a different user base. In the ecosystem, all payments are handled via the internal currency called ONL. All of the agreements between Broadcasters, Relayers, Viewers, and Transcoders are conducted via smart contracts.

• The Live Services marketplace gives service providers like lawyers, doctors, nutritionists, and financial advisors the ability to sell their services to anyone who needs them. The OnLive video protocol allows real-time HD quality broadcasts. Live services give customers the opportunity to meet with subject matter experts in a one on one setting via video chat.
• Live Broadcasts are intended for large audiences. This marketplace allows users to book and pay for workshops, seminars, group training and additional services.
• The Transcoding and Relay Node marketplace is for users not necessarily interested in watching videos but instead provides rewards for anyone who will transcode videos to different formats, verify ONL payments, and provide computing power and bandwidth to host streams.

For all broadcast services, OnLive gives streamers and users different payment models that include Pay Per View, Pay Per Minute, In-Stream Payments, Advertising, Tips / Donations, Subscription Plans, etc.

VIDEO STREAMING

OnLive is attractive to different groups of users, small businesses, and individuals as well as large businesses. For individuals and small businesses video streaming live broadcasts and live services can be used for many different applications including live concerts, music lessons, fix-it consultations, and computer help.

Individuals

This is for individuals with a special talent or skill that is valuable to others. This user group includes doctors and lawyers but also craftsman like woodworkers, musicians. These are the individuals tha can train others to do things like fix their toilet or bake a loaf of bread.

Organizations

Organizations such as band fan groups, church paritioners, schools and clubs can use the service to broadcast events globablly to allow participants to stay involved when not physically present.

Training

Studies have shown that video content is the cheapest form of training to create. In the corporate world, large-scale E-learning courses are the most expensive asset to create, at an average cost of $53,742. In comparison, the average cost of a video is $30,420.

Consulting

Many sectors are already moving to video-based consulting as it adds many benefits for businesses. The video streaming and digital consulting business had a market valued at over $50 billion in 2016. Using video as a means to meet with a customer allows consultants to work with more customers during the day, expand their reach outside of their local market and even rid themselves of a required office space outside of the home.

On a larger scale, medical health providers such as UnitedHealthCare are offering virtual visits for $50 with their insurance plan. OnLive will allow similar functions to be used by independent doctors and will allow them to charge less which enables customers from all over the world to seek expertise that they never before had access to.

USE CASE

Donald is a financial advisor that specializes in building retirement portfolios that include a small percentage of cryptocurrencies. Donald has been hosting live in-person events in the United States for the past year but has tired of the flights, the hotels, and the overall grind. In addition to this, the amount of time dedicated to preparing for the travel is almost as much time as he spends on prepping his information.

A friend introduces Donald to OnLive and he is immediately interested. It will allow him to reduce travel, increase his reach and cut down the time and money spent on preparations.

Donald creates an event in the Live Broadcasts marketplace with a scheduled time, date and costs in ONL. He then begins marketing his first live stream to his customer base and over internet ads.
