The ICO making people (#1): CIVIC.IO

in #ico9 years ago (edited)

I will start a series of the ICO projects and the people behind them.

The case of CIVIC.IO: Should you invest in them?

Meet Vinny. Vinny Lingham is one of the most successful entrepreneurs of the world. 500 CEO's in the World 2015, Know mainly as a Bitcoin price Oracle and as the Shark Tanks investor in the SouthAfrican version of the TV show (I have a sweet tooth for Southafrican enterpreneurs like Elon Musk.) He's got as good of a track record as anyone could hope to in a start up.
That start-up is CIVIC.

This ICO has one purpose, in simple words: eat the identification market. How much is your passport worth? Your identity?
Is a market whose value is only known by swindlers, governments, and mafia. As identity theft is among the most common and damaging types of theft crimes.

This an almost untapped market that could be worth trillions of dollars. Just imagine. The ability to travel anywhere regardless of your original nationality. All your documents at every moment with you while conserving your anonimity. Yet, CIVIC is not the only one trying to get into the business.
uPort is the most interesting competitor. Backed by Microsoft is a no brainer it has a huge advantage over smaller start-ups.
Not to mention the already established non-blockchain already ecosystems like IDnow or the future players like Google's identification project.

But Vinny is a Dark horse. One of the early adopters and users of Bitcoin. He consistently has shown good intuition and hard work in the blockchain space. If someone has a chance of beating the big players at the moment, establishing a monopoly of the market is someone like him.

A lot of people dislike Vinny.

Currently co-founder and CEO of CiVIC. Vinny has behind him projects such as Gyft, Yola, Inc . All of them successful, although he sold them which is a red flag for many people. Vinny has become the poster child in many people's minds for the kind of guy that shouldn't be in this space. Just like how Ripple is backed by the banks and by principle seems to be against all the Blockchain stands for. Vinny is seen as a Bitcoin maximalist. Some think his only interest in this start-up is creating a Pump and Dump scheme so he can recover the Bitcoins he once sold. He doesn't care for ethereum and since the white paper has hinted that he will change to the rootstock platform. A hypocrite, greedy rich man that should be investing in not creating start-ups.

In my opinion precisely the guy I want to invest money in.
The team he selected is really good:
Jonathan Smith CTO banking and technology advisory
Technical Advisors: Matt Roszak Co-founder and chairman of Bloq; eff Garzik Co-founder and CEO of Bloq; Juan Benet Founder, CEO at Protocol Labs, Inc.; Diego Gutiérrez Zaldívar CEO & Co-founder at RSK Labs; Anthony Di Iorio CEO & Founder at Jaxx and Decentral, Founder at Ethereum; Jeffrey PaulHacker, Researcher, Speaker, Entrepreneur, EEQJ, Inc.

The ICO started the on June 21st and by the time this post was made was still running un till the 33 million dollars cap is reached. In a fitting manner with his name Civic is showing at the moment how to conduct a proper ICO without almost destroying the ethereum platform, unlike for instance the Status ICO that opened the door for the "flash crash of ethereum". For a guy who doesn't care for ethereum, his self-interest is not killing the golden eggs' goose.

Not to mention that with the appearance of Waves, Antshares and others on the road. With ethereum's blockchain growing exponentially in storage size and more and more ICOs coming that could crash it all, having the ability to move out is actually a good feature in case something fails.
Hate it or love it, we sometimes hate what we think we would like once in front of us. Want a true DAO with low transaction fees? there's DASH...but they are more of a self-marketing company than a cryptocurrency. Want a promising stable currency at a price that could make you rich? there's XRP... but is backed by those filthy banks. Want a guy with a dark horse ICO in ethereum? There's Vinny... but (you fill in)
