ICO Hack: Getting your transactions approved to oversubscribed ICOs by optimizing Gwei/Gas/Timing

Do you remember the times when getting whitelisted was all we needed in order to get into an ICO? Crowdsale was for the people who messed up and missed out? Well I think we can all agree that those times are over. Now the biggest problem is to get even in, no matter if presale or a crowdsale.

Transactions failing, not enough gas, not enough gwei, sending too late or too soon. Whales crashing us all with 30000 gwei and 2000$ in fees (Rly? 2ETH? Damn.).

We acknowledge the problem and we’ve come up with a solution that could increase significantly the chances of getting your transaction approved and actually getting those tokens. No more nerve wrecking staring on your pending transaction that will eventually fail most of the times anyway.

The problem:

Getting your funds into an ICO became a war. Transactions pending forever, eventually failing. You click even 5 seconds before the start and gets mined in a block 20 minutes after. Insane.

Our solution:

It all comes down to good timing, correct gwei price, correct gas limit, number of contributors and amount of ETH left to contribute. Other variables such as the way a certain ICO gathers funds also matters, we will take into account all, but the mentioned above are the main factors.

What is it that WE will do?

We are social studies maniacs who spend a lot of time collecting data and analyzing them in SPSS statistics program. Once we encountered this problem we realized, we can actually calculate the perfect timing or at least do very close estimates through our programs. With good data, it is actually very doable. We first tried. We have started collecting data from Etherscan to determine what combination of factors gives the highest chance of successfully getting your transaction approved. It seems like we can actually do it.

Basically, the questions we want to answer are:

• When should you hit the SEND button?
• What is the optimal amount of Gwei?
• How much gas?
• How do these three things interact (especially gwei and time)?
• Can we make a predictive model to give higher changes to ‘get in’ an ICO?

Data collection! There’s still one crucial part missing for us to predict the right time and gwei combination for future ICOs. In order to retrospectively confirm our estimates, we need to know from you, apart from otherwise accessible things, when did you exactly hit the SEND button. This information is absolutely crucial to make this project successful.
(note: We know this might be off a second or two, but we estimate this is distributed normally and will not affect the results, if it does it would only be a neglectable amount).
