Dettifoss i Island

in #iceland8 years ago (edited)

Dettifoss in Iceland is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The waterfall is 100 meters wide and has a drop of 45 meters.
Amount of water through the waterfall average in the summer 400 cubic meters per second. By flooding, this can increase to 600 cubic meters per second. The sound of the waterfall is compelling, and the falls are dark in colour due to the sediment that the river water brings with it. Meltwater from several glacier arms of Vatnajøkull, Europe's largest glacier, secures the river Jøkulsá a lot of water.
Dettifoss is considered one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Europe and also rages high among waterfalls worldwide.
It was rainy today when the pictures of the waterfall were photographed, and rain and raindrops on the lens make images not as sharp as could be desired. But they still make an excellent impression of this mighty waterfall.

Very impressive!

I must admit I read dentalfloss at first glance.

Thanks for your positive comments about my pictures of Dettifoss @Ocrdu

Impressive photos, dear @Siggjo
I really like to hear the sound of falling water.
Thank you for the fascinating historical background
about this place. I didn't know the details.

The powerful element of water, probably, creates an
incredible noise in the surrounding area?

Thanks for your comments about my pictures of Dettifoss @Singa
I also like the sound of falling water. When I was a little boy, I lived in a rural area where there was a small water stream close to our house. I still remember the nice sound from this small river.
The sound from waterfall like Dettifoss is much stronger, and I think living near such a waterfall would not be as pleasant as the small water stream from my childhood.

Still a lovely shot despite the rain drops. It actually gives the impression that water droplets splashed on the lens from the waterfall. Now I am even more curious about how it looks when you get closer :)

Greetings from Cape Town :)

Thanks for your comments about my pictures @Haritakurdu
It is sure the droplets from the rain seems like they could have come from the magnificent waterfall, but I was not that close.
