All IAS officers are powerful

In reality, there is no rule that states that you need to become an IAS officer to be powerful or vice versa. But yes, being an IAS officer bestows some responsibilities to you by posting you as a District Magistrate which can be termed as powerful. IAS officer hardly enjoy any power in the initial designations. The real power still lies in the top management or the government.

All IAS officers become DMs

Well, in reality some of the IAS officers never get a chance to become Dm and enjoy the power. Throughout the career of an IAS officer which is around 35-40 years, he/she is allowed to serve as DM only for 2-3 years.

DM means boss of the District

A Dm or District Magistrate actually has no power of his own. He/she is just a governing body and a coordinating officer for the state and district government affairs. He is overburdened with the responsibilities. He hardly gets any time to take care of his health which seriously hampers him mentally as well as physically.

The IAS officer has to obey orders to all the top management people which include the government as well his seniors. The IAS officer has to deal with several bosses in line with the bureaucracy as well as politics.

It is not at all an easy task to manage the district. Some IAS officers don’t prefer to be appointed as DMs and offer prefers easy assignments. As the salaries as well as allowances are same for all the IAS officers, so the choices can be made.
Any negligence in the duty can have very bad consequences. The IAS officer can be suspended for any shortcoming found in the department under them. They can even face vigilance issues in case they misuse their name, designation and authority.

IAS officer live a lavish life

The reality is that the officers are so busy that they don’t get the time to enjoy the allowances and perks given to them. IAS officers hardly get any time for their friends and families.

IAS is more powerful than IPS and IRS

All the powers to the government officials are bestowed by the Parliament or the state Legislature. So each and every officer has a separate duty and responsibility. They cannot be compared to each other.

So, the life of an IAS officer is totally challenging. He has to keep nation as its priority rather than his family.
