[Global Network Report, Reporter Zhang Haichao] Recently, Lockheed Martin of the United States and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) reached a new agreement under which the former will take over the work previously in charge of Boeing and help Israel develop air defense and antimissile systems. It is reported that the two sides will also assess whether IAI’s "Barack-8" air defense missile can be part of Lockheed Martin’s "Aegis" system.

According to a report on the "Emergency Defense" website on the 7th, IAI and Lockheed Martin announced on Tuesday that they have reached a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the integrated air defense missile defense system (IAMD). A direct impact will be the termination of Boeing's contract for IAI to produce parts for the "Arrow-3" anti-missile interceptor missile.

The source said that the next batch of "Arrow-3" parts will be produced by Lockheed Martin, and a new contract will be signed to make Lockheed Martin a partner for IAI to manufacture the "Arrow-4". It is expected that the two companies will also develop other systems. It is reported that the two sides plan to evaluate whether the IAI "Barak-8" missile can be part of Lockheed Martin's "Aegis" weapon system.

According to the report, the cooperation agreement between IAI and Lockheed Martin was reached a few months after Israel and the United States began to jointly develop the "Arrow-4" anti-missile interceptor missile. On February 18, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz stated that the joint development of the "Arrow-4" with the United States will bring a technological and operational leap in preparation for the future battlefield.

According to the Israeli Ministry of Defense, the "Arrow-4" will be an advanced, innovative, and more capable anti-missile interceptor missile that will replace the "Arrow-2" in the next few decades.

Three months ago, IAI began mass production of "Barak-ER", which is the latest member of the "Barak" series of air defense missiles. It extends the range of intercepting air threats and ballistic missile targets to 150 kilometers, and can be used on land and Use at sea.

At present, the Israel Navy and the Indian armed forces are using the "Barak" air defense system.

A Boeing spokesperson in Israel declined to comment on the cooperation between IAI and Lockheed Martin. However, the company's sources said, "We are not surprised...this will affect the relationship established with IAI over the years."
