We once connected to world over copper leashed phones. Then one day we were amazed that we could send digitized ones and zeros over these same phone lines and watch words appear on our computer monitors.

Many who were alive during this transition also recall the torturous download speeds of images. Very quickly, we became accustomed to videos on our screens. With streaming videos commonplace and faces-to-face communication now possible, the only aspect seemingly left was to make our devices smaller. Boy were we in for a shock!

In 2008, the world cringed as “too big to fail” entities were, in a way, deemed to be above the financial system. Maybe it was needed, or maybe it would be here anyway, in either case, blockchain technology stood up and said:

How incredible could a system become by pairing logistics with cryptography as an underlying part of our financial system and ultimately the world economy? Well this day is not here yet, but the consensus is that it is coming. Just google blockchain with IBM, Amazon, Oracle, and other major players. The ICOs are certainly not the only ones propping up blockchain.

Amidst the historical discussion of the computer leers an all-encompassing AI in the background. Heightened interest in mathematics that accompanied computer innovation was also instrumental in advancing AI. Maybe you are now beginning to see why many professionals expect AI to become the dominant innovation for the future world economy.

There is a lesser known, but possibly just as important innovation on the horizon. It’s one that gets developers, especially those involved in blockchain and AI, excited.
