God Bless the Republic of Texas

Since Hurricane Harvey first hit Texas over the weekend, I've been studiously avoiding weather reports and most hurricane related news. This evening, after finishing my Tuesday workout, doing a little housework and taking a shower, I settled down to relax in my room and fought the urge to fast-forward through the network news. As I watched the ABC World News Tonight , I also browsed my GoComics favorites and found two outstanding editorial cartoons in the Pulitzer Prize Winners section—one by Walt Handelsman and the other by Clay Bennett.

Walt Handelsman is an editorial cartoonist for The Advocate in New Orleans. He has twice won the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning, in 1997 with the Times-Picayune and in 2007 for Newsday. Source: Wikipedia

Winner of The Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning in 2002, Bennett has earned almost every honor his profession has to offer. He now draws five cartoons a week for the Chattanooga Times Free Press, having joined its staff in 2007. Source: The Editorial Cartoons Clay Bennett
