On Wednesday, November 7, 2018, Gemini’s Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss met with Huobi team lead by Group CEO Leon Li and COO Robin Zhu. The main discussion points revolved around stablecoins, building a flatter global economy, and constructing a bridge between the crypto communities of the east and west.

Describing the meeting, Huobi’s Leon Li remarked

“There are a lot of good digital assets and products around the world, especially in America, and we want to bring them to China. We also plan to bring more awareness about Huobi’s digital assets and financial services in China to the world,”

From Huobi’s perspective, both Leon and Robin were impressed by Gemini’s Stable coin GUSD. Recently Huobi has listed GUSD within HUSD ecosystem, which helped millions of Huobi Global and Huobi Cloud traders to enjoy its benefits. On the other hand, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss were keen to discuss Huobi’s global strategy and jurisdiction in key Asian markets such as South Korea and Japan. They were also impressed by the Huobi Cloud platform, which allows companies to open their exchanges based on the Huobi’s model.

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss

The Winklevoss twins(Cameron Winklevoss and Tyler Winklevoss) are Internet entrepreneurs and early Bitcoin adaptors. They are famous for co-founding HarvardConnection which ignited the idea of Facebook. Later on, they went to sue Mark Zuckerberg on which received $65 million as damages. From the damages they received, they made a $11m bet on Bitcoin in 2014 ( which was valued around $1.3 Billion in early 2018)which made them Bitcoin Legends and the first Bitcoin Billionaires.Later on, they went on founding Leading US-based crypto Exchange Gemini ( The Latin meaning “twins”) which deals with digital asset trading and custodian services. Recently Gemini has introduced its stable coin GUSD which was incorporated into Huobi’s HUSD ecosystem

Can the meeting bridge East And West?

The meeting is significant from both Gemini and Huobi perspective. Already Huobi is present in US market with HBUS. But insights from an established trading partner like Gemini can help Huobi to gain more insights about the American market as well to understand US jurisdictional requirements. One of the best product Huobi can offer to the American Market is Huobi Cloud, which was introduced in July.

Huobi Cloud enables organaztions to build their own Huobi-like digital currency trading platforms, which include wallets and asset-management clearing functions. On the other hand, Huobi can look forward to understanding Gemini’s custodian services, primarily to institutional customers. It is expected huge institutional money to enter cryptosphere in the coming years. During that time Huobi will be ready to deliver a trusted storage service to the newly arriving institutional clients.
