Street racing: It's dangerous, illegal and irresponsible...Even for grannies!

in #humor6 years ago (edited)

Drag racing is an exciting sport in which machine and driver are tested over a designated distance, a quarter mile is the normal distance however an eighth of a mile is used sometimes. Drivers stage their cars on the start line two at a time and when the start lights go green they race down the drag strip towards the finishing line and glory or failure. Drag racing has always been quite popular however has been made more so through movies like the Fast and Furious franchise where characters like Dominic Toretto, Letty and Brian O'Connor race high-powered cars on the streets and get up to various zany automotive-hijinks.

The safest place to drag race is at a sanctioned drag strip, a controlled environment with safety marshals, first aid, fire and rescue responders and of course, no other traffic. Unfortunately drag racing finds it's way onto the streets and endangers not only the safety of the participants, but the safety of people watching, innocent bystanders and other road users. Street drag racing is irresponsible and very dangerous which is why I was so shocked to see these two people drag racing yesterday whilst I was in the park enjoying a relaxing day out. I managed to snap this image as they flew past me during their illegal street drag race.

I was horrified to see the two grannies, in the image above, engaged in a drag race showing no regard for the safety of others in the vicinity. They simply lined up next to each other and boom it was on! Speeds reached some 2 kilometers an hour at times as they raced their high-powered drag cars down the roadway on their reckless adrenalin-charged drag race. It was as if The Fast and Furious had come to life right in front of my eyes. I wouldn't have been surprised to see Dom Toretto walk up and say, "I live my life a quarter mile at a time!" You'll note the drag racers have no safety equipment on at all and quite obviously have no care for the safety of others, or regard for the law.

After the race the two grannies simply powered away into the distance leaving shocked and surprised onlookers in their wake.

The road is not the place for drag racing. It doesn't matter if you're Dom Toretto of Fast and Furious fame, seen pictured here, or a couple of grannies. It's a dangerous pastime and should be left on the race track where it belongs.

I don't know what these two grannies were thinking yesterday, obviously the glory of the win was more important than their own safety, or that of others; If one of their high-powered machines got out of control there could have been a horrendous accident. Fortunately on this occasion no one was injured or killed but next time disaster could strike.

Think before you race on the street. Don't risk your life or endanger others like these outlaw drag racing senior citizens seen here. Street racing: It's dangerous, illegal and irresponsible

Oh, glad to read you’re ok! Thank God no one was injured in this dangerous race!

It was touch and go for a while. I think I have a guardian angel. :)

...boom it was on! Speeds reached some 2 kilometers an hour at times as they raced their high-powered drag cars down the roadway on their reckless adrenalin-charged drag race.

HAHA, that's really funny! Nice one! 🤣

Real psychopaths; I'd be worried they'll read this and track you down.

Yeah, I thought that...It's on the blockchain now though. I've contacted a couple private security firms and have some ex-military contractors lined up to accompany me everywhere. I hope that's enough.

Tracey Grimshaw will be all over this news. Dangerous Electric scooters pose a real threat to our suburban footpaths. Just last week, I saw the narrow escape of a pigeon, who was almost crushed by these murderous, rampaging grannies.

Yes, I thought the same. Tracey will slot it into A Current Affair right between the Adelaide’s best meat pie story and the hard-hitting piece on which supermarket has the cheapest bread this week. Journalistic gold!

Ps. I hope that pigeon is ok.

Thank @galenkp for your good advice. I agree with you. Before racing we should think your suggestion.

I agree that you should agree.

Haha go grannies reminds me of a tv show i watched as a kid called Super Gran.

Oh yeah, these two were off the chain! :)

They might have made an escape from the retirement home.

Maybe. Illegal street racers like these two should be apprehended by the police.
