How to please God: I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts, who tremble at my word. Isaiah 66:2

Isaiah was a major prophet and like all of them he did not speak of the need for a new word but for a renewed heart towards God. Isaiah had to live in very difficult times. He witnessed the destruction of the Kingdom of Israel, the deportation of the ten tribes, and he had to help the ruler of Judah, King Hezekiah, to resist and triumph over the siege of Jerusalem.
Isaiah taught that if men despise the spiritual gift of fear of God (constancy, firmness, devotion), there is no law that is valid. Because all of man's moral and ethical duty is summarized in one principle: "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man", Ecclesiastes 12:13.
Isaiah explained how to please God, because there is a cult that is in accordance with divine wisdom and another that is not, like in the Book of Genesis, men have to choose between the way of Abel and the way of Cain.
This is how Isaiah explained what God requires of men, a teaching with great similarity to the blessedness of poverty of spirit given by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount:
"My hands have made both heaven and earth;
they and everything in them are mine.
I, the LORD, have spoken!
I will bless those who have humble and contrite hearts,
who tremble at my word" Isaiah 66:2.
After this teaching, the prophet explained what is contrary to true worship, a cult of masks and appearances, which only superficially complies with the law:
"But those who choose their own ways—
delighting in their detestable sins—
will not have their offerings accepted" Isaiah 66:3.
That is why the prophet concluded with a teaching that was at the same time a promise made with the arrival of Cyrus the Great and the construction of the second temple, those who are faithful to God do not see their hope disappointed:
"I will give Jerusalem a river of peace and prosperity. The wealth of the nations will flow to her" Isaiah 66:12.
