The issue has mainly been that they all offer about the same resources, but not everything in one. Companies are split between having an ATS and HRIS and having to purchase more add-ins and software to accommodate what they are looking for. For example, a company will often have an HRIS like BambooHR or WorkDay, an ATS like GreenHouse, automated scheduling software like Goodtime.io, and a Payroll provider like ADP. Companies that offer everything in one such as PayCom, Ceridian, Kronos, etc are nowhere close to the specialized software. Therefore HR staff are frustrated, and the costs keep going up.

The trend now is that HR staff are starting to take on coding, to build out platforms on their own. Systems like Google DialogFlow or Microsoft Azure make it really simple for someone in the HR field that loves coding to make a chatbot with a small amount of Node.Js.
