How Steemit Is Restoring My Faith In Humanity - And Why Should You Give Humanity A Second Chance

in #humanity8 years ago

I have seen some instances of communities that deteriorated faster than you could say "deteriorate" primarily because the belief people had in the platform was already on the edge of the cliff. When it got the certain push that it needed, it rang the dinner bell at the chaos table. People fell apart and blamed all of their own faults on the devs. To be honest, it was really a disturbing sight to see. The same people that had sung praises of the devs were had crashed and burned which they attributed to the devs. It was a slaughterhouse and whoever even came to saw that destruction got dragged right into it. Keep in mind that all of this happened at a time at which they had originally planned to expand their platform. It made me think: these are all the people who had "pledged their allegance" to the devs. But as soon as the devs took one wrong step, these guys decided that it was the end of the world and nothing could be done to correct the mistake. If you consider yourself a proud member of that community, you shouldn't bail out at the first sign of trouble. It just showed that all their promises and praises were lifeless, baseless and useless. They were there as long as they were getting something out of it.

To be honest, if you Google and research about the environment, climate change and it's effects on the animal kingdom, you'd see some pretty disturbing shit. We have a pretty minute part to play in climate change and in the extinction of a dozen or more species. How we can hunt animals to extinction just because we can. Even writing something like this makes me incredibly angry. When I read articles on these extinct animals, It feels like a part of my own self died with their species.

You'd think that we'd be more appreciative and respectful of the land on which we live but unfortunately that's not the case either. We'd pay more attention to the land and oceans if we weren't to busy fighting amongst ourselves. We are not only destroying ourselves but also the Earth.

All over the world, there are different problems. There are ISIS, terrorists, diseases. Although many of the diseases are natural, some and the most fatal ones are caused by us because we want to get high. Alcohol has been linked to 7 kinds of cancer. Smoking also causes lung cancer.

Every other day you see some beheading that has happened or some shooting in Europe. When I think about it, the saddest thing is that the first thing that came into my mind while writing about this paragraph was the phrase "Every other day". It's almost depressing. There is some pretty dark shit going on today's world which you and I know nothing about. Think about how many murders could have taken place in which the body of the victim has not yet been found. Think about how many murderers still on the loose. Eg. the Zodiac Killer.

All of these things and more make you lose your faith in humanity. So why is Steemit helping me restore it?

Steemit has made me realize that there are some good people in the world. Creative and talented people who go to lengths to make the community better than it already is. Think about how many members of this community do great things and improve the platform without giving a fuck about money. Not many but there still are. People who have seen the potential in the platform and are working to improve it. I am of view that we should not care about the money factor here on Steemit. In fact, there should be an option to HIDE how much a money a post has made. Not only it would decrease the growing anger, disgust and jealousy in the community but it would also show that a person is not doing it only for the money. Their goal is the betterment of Steemit.

It shows that there are some people out there that have no interest in money whatsoever, rather they do what's required of them by the community.

Not only that but how many people there are who just want to entertain, educate and enlighten others. Education is one of the most important things that many of the recent posts are full of; this made me much more appreciative of this community.

Steemit acts as an anchor that helps me stop and be more appreciative of humans out there. It teaches me not to paint everyone in a single broad stroke which, in today's world, is very easy. It is very easy to find things in the news that make you incredibly upset.

Cecil

For instance, Cecil the Lion and Harambe. The dentist and the child's parents were at fault respectively in these two incidents. Did they get the punishments they deserved? Nope. The dentist was allowed to return to his practice after two months for crying out loud.

But does anger help me? Does it make me feel better? It doesn't. What is done cannot be changed. I can only hope that the person(s) responsible for the Cecil's and Harambe's death feel at least a little bit bad about themselves that their incompetence has resulted in the death of an innocent animal.

I have begun to control my anger on issues like this and instead focus on what humans are doing about animals and environment. Although it is not much as compared to how much of the environment they have decimated but hey it is something. There are still people who thin about the environment. One of the people who I admire for their efforts in these regards is Leonardo DiCaprio. In my honest opinion, he delivered one of the best speeches in the history of Academy Awards: he wasn't self-righteous, he applauded his co-stars and fellow nominees, he thanked all of the people who got him there, and most importantly, he talked about the environment.

And lastly, I just want to say this: Making The Revenant was about man's relationship to the natural world. A world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history. Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, but who speak for all of humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of underprivileged people out there who would be most affected by this. For our children’s children, and for those people out there whose voices have been drowned out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for this amazing award tonight. Let us not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you so very much.

Me and my friends were at a bar during this moment and literally everyone their cheered for him after his speech. It was really an electrifying moment.

You and I aren't the only ones who care deeply about the world and the environment, many others do too. Some of them care even more so than you or me. I think that that's something we should all be incredibly supportive and appreciative of. We aren't the only sane persons in the world. But the thing is, there are a lot more insane people than sane ones. There is nothing you can do about that really except raise awareness about these kind of things. Or wait for natural selection to run its course. Whatever you deem fit.

It is really the only reason you should give humanity a second chance. You should have just an ounce of faith that people who are doing everything they can to protect and preserve the environment exist. That people exist who have put their lives on the line for the protection of animals from poachers. It helps me restore my faith in humanity. It makes me realize that everyone and everything is deserving of a second chance.

Thank you so very much for taking the time and reading. I hope you liked it.

What a great post! There's many good people out there ready to make a change in the world !

there are still good people out there who have a good heart and mindful of the environment. And I agree that SteemIt is making a difference and proving that there are still indeed a bunch of good persons willing to make our planet a better place to live in.

Thats definitely the point I was trying to raise. In this world, even the slightest bit of humanity can go a long way in helping others believe that some good people still exist.
