HPB - A catchup.

This weeks article is going to serve as a brief look into the BoE engine and the updates that have currently been released by the team.

If you haven't previously heard of it, what is HPB?

HPB which is short for High Performance Blockchain is a blockchain solution that are based on a combination of hardware acceleration chip, known as BoE, and their original software acceleration system, combining the two of these, they are aiming to solve the issue that alot of blockchains are currently experiencing, a massive hit to their performance and transaction costs when under load. Using a combination of community and institutionally ran nodes using their BoE hardware, they're hoping to reach levels of TPS (Transactions per second) that is only dreamed of by a majority of currently blockchain solutions.

A few weeks back, the HPB team made the massive announcement that they were going to be releasing the worlds first, open source acceleration hardware for blockchain.

Currently the appliances are undergoing rigorous testing, this is to ensure that Node Applicants that pass all of the benchmarks and tests setup to became an official node on the blockchain will be receiving the producing in perfect condition for the optimal performance when running the nodes.

The team we have conducted a series of quality control measures that ensure the operability of the BOE Acceleration Engine after shipping, they have currently released two videos of some of this testing in action, which you can see below at the corresponding links:

On the subject of the BoE engine, the applications for node hosting recently came to a close on August the 1st, and the figures were very impressive. In total HPB received 7841 community registrations for nodes, and a total of 67 institutional registrations.

Out of this massive number of community registrations, the team have managed to whittle it down to, 138 applicants which has passed the hardware testing successfully and now enter the KYC vetting stage, to ensure that they are suitable to receive the HPB hardware directly.

In terms of geographical locations of the node applicants, the team has said that China received the highest number of applications (which naturally was to be expected with it being a Chinese project, and them as a county having a major interest in bitcoin mining), followed by international applicants including the US, the UK, Germany, Sweden and Singapore.

MainNet Testing Progress
If you have been following along with the HPB telegram channel, or even browsing their other social media channels, you'll know that the main question that seems to be on everyone's minds, is what is the current status of the mainnet, and how is the team coming along? They have just updated us with the following:

• Server set-ups: The team has currently setup a total of 40 server modules in their in-house data centre, all 40 of these units have passed the server testing requirements that are needed to run a BOE acceleration unit, this is going to form the backbone of the teams nodes, and currently they are being used for testing prior to the launch of the MainNet.

• Automated testing - As well as manually testing the above servers, the team have set up autonomous tasks that automatically carry out basic testing and functionality on the chain to ensure node consistency and optimal TPS confirmations.
