How to make miniature succulent using polymer clay: How to: Weekly contest by @tonie

in #howtoweekly6 years ago (edited)
A pleasant day everyone! I'm back with my polymer clay craft! It's been a while and I miss doing this hobby. Today I will show you a step-by-step on how to make a miniature succulent using my favorite polymer clay. In this craft, I'm using an ordinary brand. Polymer clay is one of my preference in my crafty world.
Trivia : Suculent means "DELICIOUS" in french word but the orthography is not the same.

So let's get started!

Materials that you will need:

  • polymer clay (dark and light green, violet, blue violet, and maroon)
  • cuting tool
  • white pebbles
  • sand
  • plastic container ( any size)
  • pink soft pastel
  • soft paint brush
  • baking paper
  • toothpick

The process:

Step 1:

Grab your light green clay, roll it in the surface and make a long strip. Cut into pieces with different sizes, make a round shape then flatten it and make a teardrops shape. Gather and assemble all the pieces and start to make your first succulent. In assembling the pieces, start at the outer part then finish at the center with the smallest pieces.

Step 2:

Next is the voilet and blue violet clay. Roll it into string shape then cut into different sizes. Make a round shape, flatten but at this time cut the two sides into diagonal. Smoothen the edges and form a leaves. Then assemble all together and start to make another succulent.

Step 3:

Take your dark green and start to cut into pieces to form a drops but different style. Start to assemble at the outer part till you finish at the center of the succulent. Use toothpick or any round tool for assembling the pieces into a form of succulent.

Step 4:

Get your maroon clay and do the same procedure from the previous step, but change the shape into a round. Then assemble all together.

Step 5:

Combine the light and dark green clay. Flatten it, then cut into a diagonal size. Take each pieces and make a details using toothpick and start to assemble the long long leaves of succulent.

Step 6:

Get your dark green then start to form a long strip, this may serves as the stem. Then cut another pieces for the leaves, then form a tiny cylider. Assemble all together until you achieve the form that you want.

Step 7:

Get your first succulent then add a pink soft pastel using brush and shade only at the tip of each leaves. All the succulent form is done and you can start to preheat your oven into 110° for 10 minutes then bake it for about 30 minutes depends on the packaging instruction of your polymer clay.

Step 8:

Now it's time for the decorations for the final touch! I'm using a small plastic cup( for sauce). Fill in with white pebbles, sand and mix all together. Then start to arrange all the succulent plants. You can add some design if you want, but I prefer it to be simple. The succulent project is done and ready to display, sell or offer to someone!

So here's the finish product!
