How to make a content separator: How To: Weekly contest by @thaishps)

in #howtoweekly6 years ago (edited)

You have seen some post with some artistic lines that
separate the content, with grace and aesthetics?

I'm going to teach you how to create one without complicated programs and without installing software on your computer. We will use PowerPoint that comes integrated to your Windows.

Keep in mind that I'm using Office 10, so the appearance and PowerPoint tags names may vary a bit.

Search image without background:

We are going to make a separator with a miniature in the center.

For this we need a vector type image that we can download from Pixabay. You can also rummage through other repositories. I leave the link to one of my post where I have compiled some of my favorites Free image

In the Pixabay repository, select the "vectors" tab to display the options

Choose the image that is to your liking, but keep in mind that this image should not have a background. Look at the image of the turtle with which I will work. It has a transparent background, so it is ready to work.

To open PowerPoint:

With the image already at hand, open PowerPoint (I know you know how to do it😉). The application will open a new document by default as the image that follows.

Go to the menu and select the "insert" tab, then click on the "image" icon to load the vector you just downloaded to the canvas.

Select and insert the vector.

To modify image size:

We have to modify the size of the image. To do this, select one of the corners with the mouse and drag to the center of the image to reduce it.

Note: You should only reduce the image by one of its corners to maintain the proportion, if you do it on its sides the vector will be distorted.

To drawing a line:

To activate the "Pictures tools" , you must have the vector selected. Now, the shape tool to open the options sub-menu and select the form that represents a line.

Now, from left to right, make a stroke on the canvas, without trespassing its edges.

To bring forward:

Probably, the line overlays the image. To solve it, with the right button, click on the image to show a sub-menu. Select Bring to Front as shown in the following image:

Notice that the line is now below the image

To change shape:

Now we double click on the line, to activate the Format menu and in "Styles shapes", we select "Shape outline".

Open Shapes Outline to display the options and select in Dashes the line shape that you want to apply.

Shapes effects:

Now we select Shapes effects then Glow and select the preferred color, in this case I will select green.

To change color:

We are going to modify the original color of the line. We return to select Shapes Outline and in Theme Colors we choose a color.

The result looks like this:

Save as Picture:

Now we are going to save the separator as an image, so that we can transfer it to our post without inconveniences. For this in the menu click on the Home tab and then Select all as seen in the image. This will select the image on the canvas.

image.png

Once selected, with the right mouse button click on this selection to open the sub-menu. Select Save as Picture

image.png

Select the folder where you are going to save it.

Now, you just have to open the folder where you saved the image, select it, drag and drop it in the editor.

That's all friends!

This is the separator that we have just inserted in the post
