How to clean your computer properly

Hardware Cleaning
Tools Needed:
-Compressed air can
-Soft microfiber cloth
-Isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher)
-Cotton swabs
-Screwdrivers (if you need to open the case)
-Anti-static wrist strap (optional but recommended)
Steps:

  1. Turn Off and Unplug:

-Ensure the computer is turned off and unplugged from the power source.

  1. External Cleaning:

-Monitor: Use a soft microfiber cloth slightly dampened with water or a screen cleaner to wipe the screen. Avoid using alcohol or ammonia-based cleaners directly on the screen.
-Keyboard: Turn the keyboard upside down and gently shake it to remove debris. Use compressed air to blow out dust and particles between keys. Clean the keys with a microfiber cloth dampened with a mix of water and isopropyl alcohol.
-Mouse: Clean the mouse with a microfiber cloth dampened with isopropyl alcohol.

  1. Internal Cleaning:

-Open the Case: If you are comfortable doing so, open the computer case. Consult your computer’s manual for specific instructions.
-Dust Removal: Use compressed air to blow out dust from components such as the motherboard, fans, and power supply. Hold the can upright and keep it at least a few inches away from components. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner, as it can generate static electricity.
-Fan Cleaning: Hold the fan blades in place (to prevent them from spinning) and use compressed air to blow off dust. ----Clean the blades with a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol if necessary.
-Heat Sink: Clean the heat sink fins with compressed air. If it’s very dirty, you might need to remove it for a thorough cleaning (apply fresh thermal paste when reattaching).

  1. Reassemble:

-Ensure all components are dry before reassembling the case. Plug the computer back in and power it on.
