in #howto6 years ago (edited)

Hello everyone!! Welcome back to Alodia's Crochet Tutorial. Oh yeah!!! I am really really back. Another photo tutorials to share, another project to be show to all of you ;)

This time I am gonna show you how to make this mini keychain octopi ;) Hehehe! But before that I will give first a simple recap about amigurumi. Amigurumi is also made with crochet, using a single crochet stitches and of course materials are still the same, a hook and a yarn.

The best thing to use in making amigurumi is a cotton thread, or any cotton yarn. But me, I used an acrylic yarn. I think the result of using an acrylic yarn is fine too ;) But some amigurumi artist really uses milk cotton yarn, because it is best for babies ;)

Ami means crocheted or knitted while nuigurumi means stuffed doll. Amigurumi was first known at Japan fro a decade now. This stuffed doll is the most popular items in etsy. Making amigurumi is really a tough thing, since you will need to have longer patience, and you should be more imaginative. But don't worry guys, because there are some free patterns that were given by the authors. You can simply search at google of some free patterns for amigurumi. I will assure you that if you will search at google and you can find many amigurumi's you will surely amaze. That is true!! Because I felt the same way too ;) Heheh..

And now, let us start our Octopi Keychain Tutorial :)

The materials I used are:

  • acrylic yarn (local yarn can be bought 10.00 (Philippine peso)
  • 3mm crochet hook
  • tapestry needle
  • scissors
  • safety eyes (6mm)

Important note: Do not slip stitch, because we are making a spiral round. Just use a stitch marker for you to know which round are you already.

Row 1: single crochet 8 time in the magic ring (8 stitches)

Row 2: single crochet 2 times in each of the stitches (16 stitches)

Row 3: ****single crochet 1 in the first stitch
single crochet 2 in the next stitch****
(Repeat asterisk 8 times) (24 stitches)

Row 4: ****single crochet 1 in the next 2 stithches
single crochet 2 in the next stitch****
(Repeat asterisk 8 times) (32 stitches)

Row 5-13: single crochet 1 in each of the stitches (32 stitches each round)

Row 14: *****single crochet 1 in the next 2 stitches, single crochet 2 together****
(Repeat asterisk 8 times) (24 stitches)

Row 15: ****single crochet 1 in the next stitch, single crochet 2 together in back loops only****
(Repeat asterisk 8 times) (16 stitches)

Row 16: ****single crochet 2 together 8 times****

Fill in some stuff or fiber fill then also attach your safety eyes at the middle of your stuff toy.

cut off the yarn and then sew until the whole becomes close.

And then, attach the yarn on the part the we have a round of back loops,
make 3 double crochet on each of the stitches, do this until you reach the first ever double crochet you made. Slip stitch and then cut off the yarn, and sew.

Put the keychain holder on the top of your octopi, and your mini octopi is now ready. Yehey!!! We are done!! And I am happy that I have made my new collections of amigurumi ;)
I am s till practicing this amigurumi, and soon I could really create my own doll. ;)
I will say that this photo tutorial I shared to all of you is the best practice for the beginners, I also advice that in making amigurumi is you need to have a light tension of your hands. Meaning the it should not be tight too much or else your fingers will be aching and surely you feel quick tired (mangangalay - filipino term)

I hope #steemians I could inspire you in making like this kind of stuff, hehehe, you know, handmade items are really slowly gone in the market, and this handmade items are only practice at home. So my advice is that, if you know how make any handmade items, show it to the world. Do not be shy, because some would tell me that, my hobby is weird, at the age of 23 this is the hobby I select. Well, I would say, crochet is not for the oldies now. It is now best hobby for the young girls now. :)

Well done tutorial, thank you! The key chains turn out so cute.

yey!! thank you :-) im still practicing making an ami :-)

I love amigurumi. They're so cute. I usually do 6 stitches in the magic ring and my stitching doesn't look tight enough when I'm making the toy smaller. I'll try making 8 stitches and see if it looks better. Thank you for this tutorial!

yey! Thanks.. usually I also use 6 stitches, and I tried this 8 stitches. hehe, I think for me the result is good hehehe..

I remember my friends always trying to say to me that do not be afraid in experimenting hehehe..

I wanted to start this hobby months ago. I guess the motivation to start it was not as strong as sticking to my drawing or reading. Nice work here :)
