HOWTO Solve the Problem of the Missing Corkscrew (Happy New Year!)
When you don't find the corkscrew but you have some other tools, there is no problem.
Situation
You have a bottle of wine. You want to open it, but you don't have or don't find a corkscrew.
Solution
You have to use what you have.
While opening a bottle doesn't seem to be important, it could be your party blocker. If you have a workshop or just some tools in a drawer, you may solve your problem without generating others.
True Story
I've worked with a painter in the autumn, and I have a joiner friend. So I don't panic when this happens. :) There are many ways you could open a bottle.
- Cover the bottle with a towel and hit the bottom of it to a half-soft material. The bunk will pushed out "automatically". Hint: Not recommended. You could accidentally brake the bottle which is dangerous (the towel could save you from cuts if that would happen).
- Push the bunk into the bottle with a kitchen spoon (or anything that is good for doing that). Hint: You could accidentally sprinkle the wine everywhere in the process. It will be uncomfortable to pour the wine.
- Use tools.
The Chosen Method
I prefer using tools, because it is safe and easy.
I've taken some photos to illustrate the workflow. :)
Supplies
- Screw nail
- Screw driver
- Pincers or other pliers
- A bottle of wine obv.

Step 1: Turn the screw nail with the screwdriver into the bunk.
Step 2: Take the screw nail with the pincers and pull the bunk out.

I wish a Happy New Year all of you!
Close the old, start the new.

The long metal screws out of cheap bar stools work great too. Opened many a wine bottle at the bar with those and my letherman.
