How to make a good impression on a job interview

in #howto7 years ago (edited)

I have been through a few job interviews, and I believe I found a good list of things you have to display when being thrown face-to-face with your potential employer.

  1. Be confident. If you aren't you will give the impression of someone who doesn't know what he wants or worse, someone who isn't sure of his skills. This applies especially to managerial positions. Fake it till you make it!.

  2. Research the company. Trust me on this one. When the employer hears that you know the product and the history of the company he will be much more enclined to hire you as that means you show interest in the company itself.

  3. Do not be afraid to ask questions yourself. If you engage a two way conversation, your employer might treat you like a peer instead of an underling. This is a great tip if you plan on climbing the hierarchy.

  4. Do not arrive late at your interview. Just don't. It shows a lack of respect for your potential employer and a lack of reliability.

  5. Do not call or email after the interview. You can send a thank you note a day after the interview if you really want to try to get some information but you shouldn't show you lack patience. If the answer still didn't come after two weeks you should then call and ask about the application, chances are they simply didn't take the time to contact you with a ( probably ) negative answer.
