How to Bake Revel Bar

in #howto6 years ago

Hello Steemit friends!

I hope you were all having a wonderful day. It has been weeks since I posted something about baking and our baked products. My wife just suddenly bakes and I am not always around to capture what she does while preparing the baked goods.

But somehow, I managed to peek on her notebook of recipes. I was hoping I can find some tips and techniques in baking, and also the recipes and ingredients. I immediately read it and copied the recipe of the recent food that she baked. It is called Revel Bar.

The Revel Bar (freshly taken out from the oven)

Why is it called Revel Bar?

I look it up on the dictionary and found the meaning of revel --

rev·el /ˈrevəl/
(verb) enjoy oneself in a lively and noisy way, especially with drinking and dancing.
(noun) lively and noisy enjoyment, especially with drinking and dancing.

But actually the revel bar is a combination of oatmeal bar, cookies and melted chocolates. I'm taking a hint that the term Revel Bar got itself from the bakers who became lively and noisy when they started eating that stuff. (Too close for that speculation) Or maybe because they started drinking and dancing after they have formulated the appropriate ingredients to use on this kind of food.

Well, whatever it is, it's just a name. Like how Filipinos coined the term Mamon and Monay. (No double meaning intended) Oh yeah right, we called it Revel Bar because everyone is calling it Revel Bar. 😁

The Revel Bar cut into 30 equal slices

Like I narrated a while ago, I didn't get to see how my wife prepared it and only stole the notebook she had written the recipe on. (No, I didn't steal it. I just took a glance while she's busy) So, I don't have the pictures how she prepared this food. But still, I will divulge the information to you so that you can bake it at your home or in your work area. Just follow these easy steps so that even a novice like me can professionally bake like a master-baker. (Be careful what you read, it's master-baKer)

Ingredients

● 2 & 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
● 1 tsp Baking Soda
● 2 cups Brown Sugar
● 1 cup Butter or Margarine
● 1 can 300ml Condensed milk
● 2 eggs
● 3 cups quick-cooking rolled oats
● 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate pieces
● 2 tsp Vanilla

I prefer to use butter instead. If you want lower fat, Margarine might work for you. It contains plant-based fats, unlike butter which uses dairy fats. But if you want a less processed food and salt in your diet, Butter looks more appropriate to fit in. I am cutting salt in my diet so I chose butter over margarine.

For the chocolate pieces, I am a fan of Dark Chocolate. The local Goya Dark Chocolate you can see in convenience stores is a bit handy. But if you want to try the expensive ones, you may do so.

I placed each of them on cupcake holder to prevent it from sticking in the box
and of course, for visual presentation

Procedure

● Pre-heat the oven to 350°F.
It distributes the heat evenly when you start to cook your food. Also, it is essential when using yeast, baking soda and baking powder because they react to heat.

● Set aside 2 tbsps of butter or margarine.
It will be used later on for the chocolate filling.

● Using a large mixing bowl, beat the remaining butter or margarine.
You can use an electric mixer. Just set it to medium speed for 30secs of beating.

● Add brown sugar, eggs and 2tsp vanilla.
For the health conscious, you can use Muscovado or Stevia as a substitute for Brown sugar.

● Combine flour, baking soda and oats in a separate large bowl.
This will be the bowl for our cookie-like recipe.

● Add the dry mixture into the beaten mixture.
Gradually stir it while combining the two.

● Melt the condensed milk, reserved butter or margarine, and the chocolate pieces on a saucepan.
Cook over low heat until chocolate melts while stirring it occassionally.

● Line the wax paper or aluminum foil in your baking pan.
This would prevent the mixture from sticking in your baking pan.

● Press the 3/4 of the oat mixture into the baking pan.
By pressing, it means to flatten the mixture by spreading it evenly.

● Spread the chocolate mixture over the oat mixture.
Use a rubber spatula to spread the mixture.

● Dot the remaining oat mixture into the chocolate mixture.
Freely use your hands on this one. It will look like a group of islands covered with the ocean.

● Bake in a 350°F oven for 25minutes

● Chill in your fridge for about an hour.
This is best served slightly cold. Cut into desired pieces afterwards.

Resting in our trademark red box are these lovely, enticing bite-sized Revel Bar slices. For only 150pesos (2.88US$) you can have 1box of it, with 6pieces inside. Its chewy texture adds fullfillment as you want to munch through and through until finally finishing a piece. The richness of chocolate flavor combined with oats is a heavenly sensation.

Health Benefits

I'm not going to discuss the nutritional facts of this baked product. Only a few health benefits that you should know. Since this is made of oats, definitely it is rich in fiber. Oats can lower cholesterol level and helps improve blood sugar control.

Meanwhile, chocolates are known as food rich in antioxidants. It is also considered an aphrodisiac, which helps you put in the mood for sexual activities. It also stimulates nerve cells and improves blood circulation.

All in all, this Revel bar is a good source of strength and endurance. It serves as an energy booster and gives off energy you need while working or doing physically related activities. I definitely recommend this as a substitute for breakfast. Good for people skipping breakfast and in a hurry going to work.
