Basic Maintenance: Samsung Dishwasher

in #howto6 years ago

This is a basic routine maintenance/cleaning of accessible sump components. The example below is a DW80F600UTW/AA Samsung dishwasher. It's got a garbage warranty and a whole lot of plastic parts that break easily.

Issues: Smell, drain clogged, filth on dishes.

First thing is to disconnect the spinner arms and channel. Examine and clean them.

Issues: If your top rack isn't getting clean, check your spinner arms for clogs in the water ports. If no clogs, make sure that your top rack tray is fully retracted prior to closing the door when starting a cycle.

Remove the cover from the pump assembly. You only need a screw driver for this. Do not use an automatic driver or drill or chances are you'll be buying a new dishwasher soon.

The black ring is the seal. If it's damaged you will need to replace it. Pictures below all show the buildup. Disassemble the components carefully.

Best to not attempt on a full stomach.

Careful around the pump mechanism itself, it'll run you around $200 to replace. Remove debris. Pour vinegar onto it, leave alone while cleaning out the individual components.

Those metal pieces are the broken macerator/food grinder. I didn't have a replacement on hand and ended up going without it.

Remove the metal filter and keep cleaning.

Another shot of the broken macerator/food grinder.

Heater coil looking brand new.

Vinegar all the parts if you have build up.

Reassemble.

If this doesn't solve the problem chances are something is lodged in the drain hose or pump.

this was funny on so many levels for me to read first thing in the morning and sorry your dishwasher wasn't working. After Mom's, I now have a love/hate relationship with dishwashers.

that and dry heaves and laughing while looking at dishwasher photos is an interesting way to wake up :D

Really great tutorial! More sir, more, please!

I learned how to make homemade beer from one of @rakkasan84's posts.

Fixed my sister's washing machine a few years back by following a YouTubeTM tutorial. The same way I installed a new garbage disposal for her daughter down in North Carolina.

This is really great! People search for DYI stuff a great deal on YouTubeTM. It would be great if people started looking for DYI on STEEM!

You is a genius @guiltyparties! Maybe you could start the #dyi on STEEM!

Is it like fixing your own bike back in the day?

Any spare parts?

Yeah its pretty basic stuff but makes a difference.

I think @snook has a simple fix too, she bought a new one.

That solution seemed to work too.

Hers was older than all of us combined.

Something like this

Yours is obviously more like this one

Back when it was bought that's what I figured too, up until the rack assembly brackets snapped in half about two minutes later.

Well next time when you are shopping for appliances, look at the right racks in the store!

I was looking at the right racks.

HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!

okay this comment looks weird all the way down here LOL and I'm not that old was what they 'hey' was for.

that and that was very funny :D

Their washing machines suck too.
