My First Home Project

we recently moved in to our first ever house, its old but it has a good layout, a lot of upgrades needs to be done in the future time, but we are taking it one day at a time, i made my first home project last night and it only cost me $1, its called white washing. I used a pure white latex egg shell but turned our gray when i applied it which matched the whole black white and gray theme we had for our home. I got the paint at our local home depot and went to the clearance and the paint only cost me 50 cents for the pure white and the another 50 cent for the tan color, well as an artist i already have the other supplies i need, like brushes and masking tape and that all i needed, let me show you my process for it

White Washing your old brick

Materials needed:

  • i used egg shell pure white latex or acrylic
  • i also got a tan colored egg shell latex
  • masking tape
  • plastic, or old news paper(just to cover your flooring)
  • Paint Brush
  • water

Step 1

  • Prep your area by making sure its clean and free from any dirt and debris
  • Then i cover the sides with masking tape with a plastic to cover areas i dont want any paint on

Step 2

  • Dilute the paint, ratio 1:1 for water and paint

Step 3

  • start painting the sides of the bricks, it also kinda absorbs the color, then apply it as well in the bricks, and the bricks are porous it will also absorb the color

Step 4

  • use a rag and lightly scrub the bricks and the red brick will show up a little, and it really depends on how light you want it or how heavy the paint you want it, my wife wanted it a little thick in color and i agreed as well

Step 5

  • allow to dry then paint the insides, i used a tan color for the inside and i took off the grills that carry the wood and colored it black acrylic
