DIY concrete light

in #howto8 years ago (edited)

Quick HOWTO for building a concrete lamp. I presume you have built stuff before and only describe most important steps. Posted earlier on my Allthemods.com account http://allthemods.com/userinfo.php?userid=25&album=0

Materials needed:
dry conrete
mold, juice cartons are nice and waterproof though need some reinforcing from outside
plastic cola bottle, to create space for the lightbulb inside the concrete
bulb and a socket

building materials I used

Building process:

  1. Cut the juice carton and cola bottle in two halves.

  2. Place the upper half of the bottle upside down inside the juice cartons bottom part. Leave cap of the cola bottle in place. Concrete will be poured in between the carton and the bottle. Place something on top of the bottle as weight to keep the bottle in place while concrete dries.

my mold setup reinforced with Technic Lego beams :D

  3. Mix dry concrete with water and pour it between the moulds.

  4. Let concrete dry and remove moulds.

  5. place bulb and socket inside the space created by the cola bottle

  6. Finished!

Sort:

That is one heavy-ass lamp! Very cool!

Technic Lego beams :D great detail!

I just love this idea. I have never played around with concrete but will definetly do try it now. I'm just wondering why you choose that type of wire? Would something made from wood or chains look a bit better?
