ABOUT THE GRAPHICS CARDS GPU (Graphic Processing Unit):

Computer chips of a particular series, graphics or otherwise, are manufactured all by the same machine in exactly the same way, since the manufacturing is very complex on a Nano-scale, not all of the units comes out with the same performance capacity. The manufacturer then test all of the chips in the batch, and classify them into different categories according to their performance, and this is why not all of the GPUs or CPUs of a single series are the same speed. So there are important differences in Hashrate, Profitability, Resell Value, RMA policy and overall quality, depending of the exact model that you choose to mine with.

**-Why NVIDIA? **

Profitability : the time to mine the GPU cost for this models have fluctuated from 4 to 12 months during this year. If you are a savvy miner your rig could pay for itself in a very short time.

Resell Value : Mining Models GeForce GTX 1060, 1070 & 1080ti, are very recent updates to NVIDIA GPUs still at the forefront of Gaming and VR Technology, Which makes holding NVIDIA GPUs as a production asset less risky, even after the hardware pays for itself.

Ease of Use and Compatibility: NVIDIA GPUS are basically Plug and Play to mine on a windows system, and compatible with most popular miners like Claymore or EBWF's CUDA miner. You can easily overclock and under-volt/over-volt this GPUs with MSI Afterburner software, so no messy bios flash/mods like on AMD GPUS.

Dual/multi-mining: 1070s and 1080 tis both have more than 8GB of Vitual Memmory which is a requirement for dual mining, regardless NVIDIA are a bit less profitable than AMD for claymore dual mining. But depending of the software you use, the cards could run many different algorithms in search of more profitability.

Long term : 1070 and 1080 ti models support large DAG files which guarantees the hardware to stay relevant in the space for longer, for example 4GB AMD cards will be useless once a DAG file Surpasses this size.

-WHY 1080Ti?

10series GPUs mostly gives their average price as hash-rate for Equihash, so in terms of scalability you save on extra parts when building with 1080 ti, so you will always get a lot more hashrate per rig, you save on all other parts in terms of scale. For example you need 2 sets of all parts to run the amount of 1070 cards that will give you 7000 sols/s while you can get this on a single rig using 1080 ti's paying the same price or less for one GPU that you pay for 2 1070s, so you achieve more speed with less hardware.

IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE BUILDING A MINING RIG

Mining And Temperatures : Temperatures for GPUs can Reach Up to 80 Degrees depending of your location and the conditions of your operation, Before you are Going to buy hardware you have to be aware of what is most convenient for you. Unless you have a cooling system running a rig inside of your house would condemn that space, you would not going to want to be anywhere near it, Belief Me!. Can I Run Any Rig Indoors: one way is to make a Rig Using Hybrid GPUs. It will run from 40 to 55 degrees.

Electricity Requirements: When Plugging a rig in your house, you need to know exactly what kind of power requirement you have, and usually you need a dedicated 15 to 20 amp circuit per rig, for a rig of 8 1080 ti's is 1520 WATTS, minimum 20 amp dedicated circuit.

RMA Policies:

Most manufactures have decent RMA policies, a lot of gamers report that EVGA RMA Policy is the best. I personally perceive EVGA as a great choice for mining, taking into account that they do the best PSUs for mining.

  • How to Get some Discounts :

Building a mining rig is a very expensive endeavor for the average person, Getting some discounts and bonuses while doing these large payments makes a significant difference in the final amount. Even if you have the money, you can get Cash Back by using Credit Cards, they also provide sign up bonuses of 100-250$ that you will definitely reach right away:

-Open an ebates account. Ebates is great, learn how to use it, find all of the discounts online, variable discounts everywhere including eBay and Amazon and must online retailers, install their plugging/taskbar, works best on chrome, turn off your ad block.

-OK join ebay Bucks for a 1 % return on eBay purchases for life… How you like that one? 

-Join Amazon Prime trial to get prime free for a month; some parts are only available on Prime at the best prices, including some GPUs. Also amazon has stock of some GPUs at the best price only avail in prime. Getting the rig together up and running ASAP after the first purchase is also critical to cost efficiency.

ABOUT HYBRID GPUs

If you are building a rig with Hybrid GPUs, you need to know how the fan connection for that particular GPU is, for example ftw3 and most EVGA Hybrids connects the fan from the GPU. While others like MSI Seahawk X needs the radiator fan connected from a motherboard Sysfan1 Header, which is limited space, making it hard for Overclocking software to manage radiator fan speed adjustment. In the case that you use this kind of Hybrid GPU, you can use a Fan Controller to solve this issue, but my suggestion is just use EVGA.

COMPLETE PARST LIST FOR WORKING 8 GPU Mining Rig :

1x - ASUS PRIME Z270-A Motherboard LGA 1151 This is the best MOTHERBOARD to make a rig to run on WINDOWS, It can run 8 GPUS (max graphic devices supported on WINDOWS) using an m2 to Pcie converter. The rest of the parts in this list are compatible with this motherboard.

1x - Intel Celeron G3900 Dual-core (2 Core) 2.80 GHz Processor - Socket H4 LGA-1151

4x - Kingston HyperX FURY Black 4GB 2133MHz DDR4 Non-ECC CL14 DIMM Desktop Memory (HX421C14FB/4)

1x - EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 G2 80+ GOLD, 1600W Fully Modular NVIDIA SLI and Crossfire Ready 10 Year Warranty Power Supply 120-G2-1600-X1

1x - Evga 120-G2-1300-XR 1300W SUPERNOVA 1300 G2 ATX EPS12V PWR SUP 80PLUS GOLD RATED

1x - ModTek Dual PSU Adapter Cable 24 Pin 2-way

4/8x - PCI-Express PCIE 8 Pin to Dual 8 (6+2) Pin Video Card Y-Splitter Adapter Power Supply Cable IMPORTANT: GPUs require from 8 to 16 or 24 pin connectors in order to be powered by the Power Supply VGA outlets, the PSU Usually just have 8 pin available this is why this extensions are needed.

1x - Samsung 960 EVO Series - 250GB PCIe NVMe - M.2 Internal SSD (MZ-V6E250BW)

8x - MintCell 6-Pack PCIe VER 006 PCI-E 16x to 1x Powered Riser Adapter Card

1x - CFIKTE NGFF to PCI-E riser card M.2 port to PCIE expansion card X4 slot adapter card

1x - Veddha Professional 8 GPU Miner Case Aluminum Stackable Mining Case Rig Open Air Frame

The 8 pin to to dual 8 (6+2) and the risers are more likely the first parts of the rig to malfunction, also running the rig with a cheap energy metter/monitor is going to cause problems, No idea what to recommend for this rig since Kill a Watt is max 1800 watts.

The GPU cooling radiators could be attached to the frame using cable tides, like in the pictures below:

If you can overclock tune up the rig for 800 sols per card, that would be a total of 6400 sol/s for 25$ daily profit on the top coins on what to mine (when you go on what to mine the calculations are for the lower end gpus, you can increase the number of 1080 tis to 9 or 10 for a more realistic estimate of this rig.

With a good credit score this project is actually a gift, plus there are other industries that rent processing power like Deep Learning.

Very nice post, thanks for the insight
do you know where I can find post like this for 1060?

Not really, this is exactly why I am sharing this info, If I find anything on the 1060s I'll let you know, or make a similar post about it.

What's your ROI, that's a whole heck of investment you're doing for a small percentage? I'm going the ASIC route with LTC and DASH, I'm really hesitant to invest in GPUs. However, the resale value for GPUs is high and ASIC isn't.

I Hodl Zcash, and trade it when it goes all the way up, if I want to take profit or increase position, so far so good, I see it as an investment that pays off in a year, but from what it seems, 10 to 12 months including electricity to be even.

I used to sell a lot of stuff on ebay so I am not worried about the hardware. I would do ASIC buying it with mining profits for next year, Make sure I get early on wait list for most recent model.

Hi, as I understood is the zotac amp extreme the best card to mine on 1080ti?

Yes One of them, Seem like They got the Best Chips out of NVIDIA production. but from FTW3 and up all cards are the best.
