Sperm are one of the smallest cells in the male body, it is meticulously, and continuously, created in the body of men. It is the male reproductive cell which is also called the building blocks of life is derived from the Greek word Sperma (meaning "seed").
In Anisogamy and its subtype Oogamy, Which is a type of sexual reproduction, there is a clear difference in the size of the gametes (A gamete is a haploid cell that fuses with another haploid cell during fertilization in organisms that sexually reproduce) Where the smaller sperm is termed as "male" sperm cell.
Motile is a uniflagellar sperm cell which is referred as a spermatozoon, whereas a non-motile sperm cell is as a spermatium. Motility is the ability of an organism to move independently, using metabolic energy.
The sperm cells can not divide themselves and they have a very short lifespan. But if a sperm cell can make fusion with the egg cells during fertilization, a new organism called totipotent Zygote begins to develop.
The sperm cells of the human are called haploid and 23 male chromosomes are the 23 female chromosomes to form a diploid cell. In the male mammals, the sperm develops in the testicles, stored in the epididymis, and released through the penis.
What is sperm made of?
Starting to finish, the sperm takes around 70 days to complete. At the time of production, the sperm cell has to travel through over 25 ft of microtubules in the testicles.
Every sperm cell starts as a germ cell and become a baby cell or spermatid after the process of meiosis. The sperm is nourished and developed in the testicles of a man. Then when the sperm cell is fully developed exactly looks it is stored in a long tube called epididymis.
The sperm cell exactly looks like a tadpole with a head and a short tail. When the men are stimulated for sex, the sperm is mixed with a fluid known as semen. The semen is also known as seminal fluid, is an organic fluid that may contain spermatozoa.
The semen which may contain up to 500 million sperm, is ejaculated out of the penis through the urethra as a result of stimulation.
