Famous Bands Cover Beetlejuice From The Howard Stern Show

He's Beetle, better known as Beetlejuice from The Howard Stern Show. Sometimes he sings songs, and sometimes famous people cover them.

For Memorial Day this year The Howard Stern Radio Show advertised 24 hours of Bababooey songs. To my delight, on the holiday my girlfriend, Hannah, wanted to go somewhere that was an hour drive away; that meant two solid hours of enjoying ridiculous song parodies.

Upon getting in the car I right away turned on the Sirius XM channel Howard 100.

"What kind of dumb shit are we listening to?" Hannah asked as one song ended and another immediately began. When I explained that it was a Bababooey song marathon she quickly moved to change the station.

After a few minutes of back and forth I finally won out, using the solid argument that what I wanted to listen to was only on that one day, and what she wanted to listen to -- the Pearl Jam Radio satellite channel -- was on everyday.

For the next half hour I hysterically laughed my ass off while Hannah spent it cringing, and placing her hand on her head as if it greatly pained her. Our opposing experiences were then interrupted by a voice from the radio (if I recall correctly it was staff member Sal Governale) saying something like, "Bababooey songs are great, but we're gonna take break from those for a bit..."

For a moment Hannah's face lit up with joy. She would've rather listened to almost anything in that moment, and the potential for a break from the stupidity was just that sliver of hope she needed to help her not go nuts during that car ride.

"...So, while we give the Gary songs a rest we're gonna celebrate Beetlejuice, playing some of his greatest hits."

I've never seen someone's face so drastically shift from one emotion to another. If there is one thing in the world that I love and Hannah hates, it's Beetlejuice. I find him wildly entertaining and fascinating, while she struggles to understand that sentiment on any and every level.

Not Hannah, but might as well have been...

Before we go any further, lets regroup. Do you know who Beetlejuice is?

No! Not that Beetlejuice! Not the one from the Tim Burton film. We're talking about Lester Green, better known by his stage name, Beetlejuice.

Our Beetlejuice gained fame through his many appearances on The Howard Stern Show. He has parlayed that fame into a few small movie, as well as a successful career making public appearances. Beetlejuice is considered by many Stern fans to the greatest Wack Packer of all time.

Since his first appearance on Stern show in 1999 Beetlejuice has appeared on it almost too many times to count. Along the way he has made up some original songs, and said a ton of ridiculous shit that's been spliced into songs by the show's production staff. One of these songs in particular became so popular on the program that it was covered by the bands Staind and Blues Traveler.

The Original: "This is Beetle," aka "The Beetlejuice Song," aka "Bad as Can."

This is Beetle, he's as bad as can, you know he's the best...

Call me a moron, but I legitimately love the song, and I'm not the only one...

The band Staind covers "The Beetlejuice Song".

Staind originally performed "This is Beetle," in studio on The Howard Stern Show on August 10th, 2005. Now, playing the song in Howard's studio is one thing, but Aaron Lewis liked the arrangement so much he played it two times on his solo tour: once on January 5th, 2006 at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, Florida, and again on January 11th, 2007 at the Jackson Rancheria Hotel and Casino in Jackson, California.

The band Blues Traveler covers "The Beetlejuice Song".

The band Blues Traveler also did a rendition of the song around the same time.

And not to be outdone, according to setlist.fm, Blues Traveler actually played the song on tour six times.

Which was better?
