Speaker Mike Johnson says he wants to split Israel and Ukraine aid.
And he wants budget cuts in return for that aid. He also separately has a list of demands to be met for Ukraine aid. I'm glad he's at least mentioning Ukraine aid. He didn't even mention Ukraine in his acceptance speech.
I'm skeptical if he can actually get his way here. The Senate is very pro-Ukraine outside of Rand Paul. House Dems are united on Ukraine and there are enough Republican Russian hawks to get a majority for Ukraine. But we are going to face another threat of government shutdown soon, so who knows how Ukraine aid will emerge from that fight.
