Grand architectural fantasy Adam Stockhausen.

The Grand Budapest does not really exist, it's just brilliant eponymous cinematic fantasy American Director Wes Anderson (Wes Anderson) and production designer Adam Stockhausen (Adam Stockhausen), it was successful thanks to the brilliant team of decorators and graphic designers. But prototypes of this fictional architectural masterpiece that became the main character of the film of the same name, has served a number of real classical buildings of the Belle Epoque.

The shooting of the film was held in the Saxon town of Gericare, in the building of a giant Department store Görlitzer Warenhaus, built in 1912 in the best German variation of art Nouveau – Jugendstil. The shopping centre has survived the Second world war, retaining the authentic layout and all of its priceless treasure: the luxurious Central atrium with a shell of caramel marble staircase with balustrades and brass railings, stained glass ceiling, friezes with gilded mouldings and heavy, suspended on ropes, crystal chandeliers.

For scenes in the lobby Stockhausen and his team have built two holistic interior of the ensemble, one in Belle Epoque style, the second in the modernist aesthetics of post-war 1960s. To create a unique façade and detail of the decoration of the Central hall in the style of the 1920-30-ies, the team used a photochromic image of the Czech Grandhotel Pupp, hotel Adlon Berlin and London at the Savoy, made in the years 1895-1910, and stored in the archives of the Library of Congress. The interiors of the pool and Spa areas involved in history, also dated 1900-year and repeat bath Gerlicher. Its romantic pale pink facade of The Grand Budapest owes entirely to the Palace Bristol hotel in Karlovy vary.

Other interesting architectural structures, skillfully mixed up in the tragicomic story of the adventures of Maitre d'hotel Gustave and the young bellboy zero Mustafa, it should be noted the famous Pfunds dairy nineteenth century in Dresden (interiors bakery Mendl), a luxurious monument of German Rococo – the building of the Zwinger Museum in Dresden (scene of harassment of a lawyer), the old music hall Stadthalle in Gericare (the restaurant in the dinner scene of zero and a young author), eighteenth century castle Hainewalde on the banks of the river Mando in Saxony (the front of the castle Madame d) and the Saxon castle of the XII century Waldenburg in Waldenburg (the interiors of the castle Madame D.). A miniature model of the Observatory, lost in the mountains, was created in the image and likeness of the astronomical Observatory of the Sphinx in the Bernese Alps in Switzerland. The prison scenes were shot at a former prison in Zwickau, now known as the castle of Osterstein, and the final wedding scene on the Observatory bridge Bastei in Saxon Switzerland.
