Yesterday morning’s launch of an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station resulted in a light display in the early morning sky that probably caused many to think Earth was about to be invaded from outer space.

The rocket was carrying the fourth Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) that will help provide video and data connectivity to ground soldiers, airplanes, ships and submarines around the world – even covering the north and south poles. Once operational, which is expected to occur after this final payload is online and tested, the nearly eight billion dollar satellite network will offer ten times the bandwidth of military’s current satellite communications system.
