Bitcoin Scam Leads To Nearly $20,000 Loss

A Bitcoin scam cost a New Jersey man more than $20,000 and left him with an empty bank account.

According to NBC News, the 31-year-old said he received a call from someone claiming to be from a company called Bitcoin Depot, which provides Bitcoin exchange services. The caller told him they needed his personal information to be able to transfer money to his bank account.

The victim gave the caller his name and address over the phone, but when he went to his bank branch in Linden, New Jersey, no one was there. He later found out that the transfer had taken place without his permission or without his knowledge.

The FBI is currently investigating what happened. A spokesman for the office said he believes the incident was part of a larger scam.
