A Sunday walk in the neighbor with the Leica iif

Here is the thing…I ve been shooting with compact film cameras for some years now and I really love it. The idea of not having to worry about settings or whatsoever and just explore the place and moment is really my thing. I like to be quick…just pick the camera and press the button.

But good quality film cameras are getting expensive and they break. As a matter of fact, they are breaking more and more.

My first Contax T2 costed me less than 300 bucks. They are now much older and the price almost doubled. Even in Japan the price for premium compact cameras rocket up in the last three years.

My uncle keeps telling me that spending money in automated cameras doesn’t make sense and mechanical cameras are the thing.

So when I came across a Leica iif for 140USD I had to give it a try.

Moving from a Contax T2 to a Leica iif took me some time…I watched a few hours of YouTube videos to get the thing going. In the end, I just needed two videos:

1 The helpful Loading the Leica iiiG 35mm Rangefinder by Adam Insights

2 And the absolutely amazing How to: Read light using basic daylight exposure (sunny 16 rule) by ForesthillFilmLab

So, I loaded the camera with a T-Max 100, I followed the sunny 16 rule and went out to shoot.

This was my first time guessing exposure and I have to admit I was really surprised with the result…I guess ForesthillFilmLab really gives a good lesson.

I hope you enjoy the photos!

Great results! I have never tried a camera that old, it must be awesome shooting with it.

I would say it's a completely new experience...you barely can frame and people get confused with what you are doing...I think they have a hard time to believe that thing actually takes photos! cheers!
