New Hive Stand

in #honey5 years ago

The bee hives are sitting pretty now.

My old hive stand was rotting away under the hives and were threatening to tip over. I spent the day inspecting the bees and setting them up on a new spot.

Three of my vertical Langstroth hives made it through the winter, one died out a few weeks ago. One of the three long hives also survived.

It is impossible to predict how the growing season will play out. I'm just happy to have some bees to work with.

We do one harvest a year in early July.
Check out the Homesteaders Co-op @homesteaderscoop later in the season for new crop honey from our chemical free bees. We make pressed whole comb honey that is full of flavor and healthful enzymes.

Cheers, Professor Bromide

Wonderful work! We need more bees for sure!

Thanks. I have been catching swarms from a local feral bee tree for 5 years. They are very hardy girls. My only contribution to their welfare is giving them a safe place to live.

That's excellent! I think you contribute way more than you think! Very nice to see :)

Nice looking hives! We are looking forward to see your new batch of honey later this year! Honey is a hot topic and I know there are folks out there that want to buy some :)

Three of my four hives are strong enough to make big honey crops. The fourth one is small, but growing nicely. They are already storing nectar in new wax, which is a good sign.

I need to buy some custom labels this year so that I can advertise STEEM and the Homesteaders Co-op with my honey.

Bee keeping has always fascinated me.

I might try it if I weren't afraid of them. ha ha

My neighbor asked me to put a hive on her yard just so she can watch them. They really are fascinating.

Bee keeping is something that has always fascinated me but I've never had the space to give it a go. An old colleague and her partner managed to get an urban hive established in the roof yard on their building - I thought that was extra cool.

It is the kind of hobby that is hard to get into "just a little." There is a substantial minimum investment of time, money, and space to start a viable apiary. A rooftop urban hive is a good option, especially if you can also get some storage space nearby. The empty boxes take up a lot of space.
