Today Is The Feast Day Of Saint Homobonus
Saint Homobonus was born Omobono Tuchengi in Cremona, Lombardy, Italy, today in 1197. He is the patron saint of business people, tailors, shoemakers, and clothworkers, as well as of the town of Cremona.
Homobonus means good man. Omobono Tuchengi was the son of a wealthy merchant and tailor and he inherited a large sum of money from his father. He was able to generously support the poor owing to the large inheritance and his own work as a merchant. Tuchengi was married. As a businessman he was known for his honesty. He donated a large part of his property for the benefit of the poor. He died in 1197 while prostated in the form of a cross during mass. Tuchengi felt it was his mission in life to work to be able to provide relief to the poor. Pope Innocent III canonized him a little over a year later.
