Ozark Trees - Honey Locust (Red Monday)
Gledistsia triacanthos
This nasty-looking tree has thorns from 1 1/4 inches to 4 inches long! Some even reaching up to 8 inches!
The Honey Locust is native to central North America. It can grow up to 98 feet tall and has a life span of 120-150 years.
In late spring, heavily fragranced, cream-colored flowers bloom. Bees enjoy them but they aren't a huge part of their pollen collection.
Once upon a time, the thorns were even used as nails! That's how strong and sharp they are!
Thanks for looking! Stay tuned!
