Cassava (Yuca) Update
Hey guys, I thought I would share what I did today in the garden with my yuca root.
Here is the parent plant, which I bought from ECHO (global farm) here in North Fort Myers.
Here is where I took a cutting from the parent plant today
And planted it (next to the banana pup I just planted in the backyard)
Here it is in the middle of a Moringa tree and the banana pup
I harvested the leaves to cook with tonight's dinner
This was my first successful cassava cutting to root from my parent plant! Woohoo!
One cutting didn't make it due to the hot sun and probably not enough water, but the one above did! I have noticed growth since a couple weeks ago when I planted it :-)
I really hope the new cutting makes it too, because I don't want to keep taking away from the parent plant if the cuttings don't root out. Wish me luck!

Ohh now I know what the neighbor is growing. Always thought those plants with the red branches are sweet potatoes hehe. Should give this a try too... but are they poisonous? Yesterday I saw an article in the newspaper that a 2-year-old girl died from eating cassava... good luck! And thanks for sharing!
Wow she must've eaten a lot and it must've been raw! Here let me get some info. Is the the girl you're referring to? https://cambodiaexpatsonline.com/newsworthy/poisoning-little-girl-dies-after-eating-cassava-t10158.html In any case, these are the leaves and she probably ate the cassava root, which is the norm, but it also says that the cassava was poisoned. I planted this cassava myself so I don't see how it could be poisoned. Still, you shouldn't eat the leaves uncooked, and it's possible that the family bought the wrong kind of root. Terrible.
Indeed. That's the story. I read it in the newspaper here. But there it didn't mention poisoned cassava... There is one village in India (if I remember it correctly) where this happens to kids every year around harvest season. They go through the fields and munch on the raw cassavas... I don't understand why parents don't take better care... We eat cassava on a regular basis since it is so cheap and abundant on the market. Didn't know you could eat the leaves too when cooked.
