RE: Adventures in Vermicomposting

awesome - i have been waiting for a good step-by-step post on vermiposting!! :D

how many worms did you add to each bin? i'd like to try this with half of the veggie/fruit scraps we make, and it looks like it would be the perfect thing to start on a big meal-prep weekend.

Sort:

I started with a total of 2,000 worms which is about 1 pound of worms. They multiply pretty fast so that will fill the bin within a month or so. You can buy 4 pounds of worms if you want a fast start with this one. I think I'm going to buy another 2 trays and kick it up a notch. Worm castings are pricey, so it's definitely worth the initial time and money investment. Cheers!

thanks for the info - i'll get to moving on this in the next couple of weeks, i think. i love knowing what goes into the food i'm growing! from castings, to compost, to banana peels & egg shells under the transplants ... it's all a beautiful cycle.
