First Tree Fruit of the Season

Our pear tree gave us our first fruit of the season. Unfortunately, this pear tree is the pollinator and not good for eating. At least the native bees and other insects have something to munch on!

Plus it's Wednesday which is yellow for the color challenge. Win win!

Oh no... so trees aren't hermaphroditic?

Some fruit trees can bear fruit fine without another, but I find all fruit trees do better with multiple varieties. Unfortunately with our zone pears don't have a lot of varieties. My mom orders but they get back ordered and never arrive. So it's usually the Ure Pear and the Golden Spice Pear. Apple trees normally need two varieties to bear fruit from my experience. We do however have a self pollinating apricot.

Interesting..
